Tip #5 – Try it in Black and White
Most digital camera’s give you the option to shoot in black and white, or, if you have some kind of photo editing software, you can easily convert an image to black and white.
But it’s not just any image that converts nicely to monochrome. You can improve the quality and increase the impact of your images by choosing subjects that seem made for black and white. For example, look for scenes or subjects with great shapes and lines. And, because old-fashioned scenes and people seem made for black and white, consider converting to monochrome when photographing the elderly (especially up close,) old barns, rusty cars, or twisted trees.
Generally, you will hear that to get the most flattering light, you should try to shoot in the morning or late afternoon, but black and white can beautifully enhance images when the lighting is harsh.
